So what goes on in this city? Atlanta has a lot to offer for everyone.

Exhibits

The High Art Museum has a lot going on at the this time. You can pay for admission and go see anything in the museum in one day. Be aware that the high Art is a huge place! If you go during the week (mon-fri) you will be able to walk to Colony Park and have lunch.

Let's start with the third part of LouvreAtlanta. I have seen the the first two parts of this exhibit and will go to see this one soon. I was pleased with the first two parts of LourveAtlanta, and I am sure I will be happy with the last and final part.

Also at the HighArt is The First Emperor China's Terracotta Army.

With both of the above exhibits being there, expect to spend a half a day.

Another exhibit that has arrived here to Atlanta is The King Tut exhibit. I know I will be going to see this, it should be interesting!

Do you like or love Jim Henson puppets?? The Fraggles, Sesame street, etc.....Then make sure to go here. How was it decided for the muppets to be displayed here?? read this article

The Famous Fox

In downtown Atlanta is the famous Fox Theatre. Known for it's acoustics. If you have the opportunity to see something here, do not pass it down! From plays to bands, there is something here for all.

Nite Clubs

As I gather info on Nite Clubs I will post them in this area

This is a start, I will be back with more info!

Yes the Atlanta Aquarium. I have been there twice since it has been open. Since there is a combo ticket between the Aquarium and Kingtut, I may do both in one day. Too good of a deal to pass. For those who chose to do this deal, do Kingtut first then the Aquarium. (no places to eat by the Atlanta Civic Center, but the Aquarium has a good food court type area) Not to mention will have to pay for parking only once, they have a transport between the two events.

Known as the biggest Aquarium in the world. Right in middle of downtown within a couple of blocks from the Georgia Dome. Their are many highlights there from the sea lions, beluga whales, killer whales, and my favorites the huge otters Ozzie and Gracie.

This is a slideshow from a couple of years ago, and not the best of pics.....but will give you an idea about what it is like: pics from the aquarium

Restaurants

Here in Atlanta, there are many types of different cuisines and unique restaurants.

Imperial Fez is a Morroccan restaurant where you take your shoes off upon entering the building, and transport back to their culture. You will eat the way they do, sitting on pillow and all! Starting at 7:30 at nite, there is belly dancing. A great place to go!

Fogo de Chao is one of a brazilian restaurant that is excellent! You get a red/green card per person. You start off with the salad bar, and when ready for the meats to arrive at your table, you turn your card to the green side, red to stop them from coming. A very unique experience, and an excellent wine list! It is very expensive to experience Fogo de Chao, but well worth it.

Chima Brazilian Steakhouse has not been here too long. This one particular restaurant is a love/hate deal compared to Fogo de Chao. This place is not to bad, but in my preference I rather go to Fogo.

Ippolitos a great place to go for Italian food. One of the Atlanta area favorites, and not too expensive. The rolls here are awesome!

There are a couple of small places to go out for good pizza on the top en/northside. Carmine's and Alessio's are both good, and offer other selections as well.

Alpine Bakery and Pizzeria is the place. It is all take-out orders here. Everything here is made from scratch and well worth the money spent. I always go here when I have company in town and give them a treat!

In the mood for seafood? This is the place for you, they fly their stuff in twice a day to keep it fresh! Atlanta Fish Market I grew up on the ocean, and I even approve this place Laughing They also have a market to buy from if you chose to make seafood items at home.

Twist is in the heart of buckhead. A place with variety and something different for all in the party. Also, from the same line as Twist, Noche is a good restaurant also.

If you are looking for a steakhouse that is not Outback or Longhorn's we have Chris Ruth's and Bones

Atlanta has several restaurants, too many to list. I listed some of my favorites above. To see what Jezebel's Atlanta based magazine has to say which are the top 100 restaurants of the year click here

If you have requests for places to go in this area, and where to eat, just ask. I will do my best to give great recommendations! Very Happy

Shopping

There is a lot of shopping here in the ATL. If you know the time of year to go, you can get some great deals here, even in the upper shops.

Atlantic Station This is a city within a city and they have some neat shops here. Right in the middle of downtown. There is some good dining here as well. dining options Keep your eyes open celebs have been known to show up here.

In Buckhead there is Lenox Square. Lenox has a lot of great shopping, and shops surrounding the area. Phipps Plaza. Do not let these big names scare you off, you know when to shop you can get awesome deals in the Buckhead District.

Perimeter Mall also has unique shopping.

Over all Atlanta has great shopping, known as the Beverly Hills of the South. Even outside the malls we have kool unique shopping boutiques.

Make sure to check out Filene's Basement is another place to check out, located across the street from Phipps Plaza.

Make sure to do your research, or you will be paying top dollar!

Atlanta does have many more malls and strip malls. The locations I have listed are places that have things in stock, and usually not out of things or sizes.

I'm sorry, but I can't hold back my building dislike for all that Atlanta's got. What's wrong with New York City, besides the increasing subway fares and the Governor's taxation plans, and the prohibitively high cost of living...

Theme/Water Parks/Stone Mountain

Six Flags located on the west side of Atlanta. It is the typical Six Flags theme park with lots of coasters. They do have a fast pass service, but it is extra.

At Lake Lanier Islands there is a resort as well as a beach and water park. During Christmas they have a drive through magical nite of lights. Right on Lake lanier, whether boating or going to hang out with friends to have a drink. A relaxing place.

Stone Mountain has different events all through the year. Laser Shows, Fall Festivals, Christmas Festivities. The carving on Stone Mountain is of three Confederate Heroes.(davis, Lee, jackson). Going up to the top of that mountain is unique. Many years ago my parents took us up there and we walked up the side, I was too young to remember(about 4 or so). I have been a few years ago, and they have a skylife up there which is neat. Good day to go spend outdoors, blanket on the lawn in front of carving and wait for laser show. It is a pain when time to leave. Hard place to get out of.

White Water is located in northwest Atlanta. Lots of kool water slides. Has been in the Travel Channels top 10 water parks in the past. Be aware that they do not allow you to take in food here. Better to eat after you are done for the day. They do have snacks and fast food in the parks but can be pricey.
