HotClubForums.com home page hacked

Today, our home page was hacked. Luckily luk3y4 made me aware of the situation and I corrected the problem. The person(s) trying to hack the site are idiots and didn't do anything to effect our forum. Anyone could still type in www.hotclubforums.com/Forum and still reach the forum with no problems. The problem took less then a minute to fix once I was notified.

Just to let everyone know, I do regular database and file backups in the event of hardware failure or hacking attacks. In the event if I ever have to do a restore, the restore should only be a few hours to 1 day old at the max.

i think i might have typed something wrong because i tried the /forum part, but it didnt come up, i probably screwed up the typing.

always good to have someone in a different timezone, so we have 24/7 posting and checkups Very Happy

but i guess i will be blamed by JR90 and Sexyeyes who have labelled me Ofiicial HCF scapegoat...

Should the domain redirect users to the forum? It's still showing up as a blank page with the word 'hacked' for me. Confused

Did you get an IP address of the hacker? If so, you might be able to ban it.

saw that yesterday right before I went to work, a white page with the word hacked. I was like that is unusual, but I had to be in early, and had to run out the door, do you ever feel like you live at work sometime Laughing

It appears that some kid tried to hack the site. If I had been home earlier, I would've fixed it right when it happened. It only took 20 seconds to fix. I guess they don't realize my backup strategy Rolling Eyes

ya` , if you daily backup the database , there is no problem

also there are on www.phpbb.com some security addons/mods you should install so it wont get hacked again!

They didn't actually hack any phpBB files, just a index file outside of phpBB. I think it was caused by leaving my ftp program open unsecure for a long length of time.

I'm not a cracker, but I think a lot of times some files and folders access to upload can be attacked exploited easier. Of course if you use avatars and such you will have to grant those permissions for people to upload their avy. Unsecure ftp connections can leave security holes if the connection is left open long enough. I'm actually going to start learning some of these methods to help safe-guard myself. It's great that I keep both onsite and offsite up to date backups, but I'd also like to stay 1 or 2 steps ahead those individuals who have no life but to ruin someone's hard work.

I don't know what you mean by profit by a phpBB forum, but take a look at the guy who runs gaiaonline. He banks off his phpBB forum.
