Well, yesterday was a real morale bust for most Suncom Wireless employees (non retail store associates) Yesterday we found out that T-Mobile Wireless has acquired Suncom Wireless, and the sale should be final some time in the 2nd quarter 2008. T-Mobile Wireless is one of the Nations largest wireless providers, and acquiring Suncom Wireless will increase their service footprint to include Many areas in the Carolinas, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and lesson their non-network (roaming areas).

As of right now, we don't know much of what is going to happen, we don't know if we will still have a job next year. This really sucks because so far, I've really enjoyed working for Suncom. I'm not going to worry about it too much for now, we will find out more information come this Friday. Hopefully, it will all work out for the best... Sad

Tough break. Sad

T-Mobile will still need workers to take care of the area, so hopefully the majority of the Suncom employees will be retained.

Good luck. At least you are finding out about this fairly early if the worst happens.

1 million is no small feat. They will most definitely need Suncom employees around to service those accounts. Plus, migrations don't happen over night. They are going to want the best of the best from your company, not just because they want quality employees, but because they're going to need the knowledge behind your accounts, products, systems and company's history (pricing, products, technology ect). The worst thing for Tmobile would be trying to integrate Suncom customers smoothly with a lack of resources.

How large is Suncom's footprint and market? Are you guys fairly decentralized or centralized? Do you know T-mobile's business structure? That would help shed some light at least as to how drastic the changes could be.

I've been through several telecom acquisitions/integrations, and am now myself in the third phase of being acquired/integrated myself. It's definitely uneasy, but if you keep an open mind and work hard, it can be a really educational experience, employment-wise, telecom-wise, and business-wise.

I'm a nerd. Signing off.

p.s. My best wishes to you through this transition jax.

p.s.s. I do know what you're going through: http://www.eschelon.com/about_us/section_detail.aspx?itemID=9278&catID=3085 I am from the acquired company that is now continuing "its operations doing business as an Integra company." I don't think Telecom will ever really be stable, wireless, data, optical or POTS.

Well come to find out, Suncom has been struggling for quite some time now. I was just reading some posts on another forum where people were talking about T-Mobile possibly buying Suncom since middle of 2006.

Well the site I was looking at was another web forum. I'm sure non of those people who posted there work or worked at Suncom. I was looking at this post http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/wireless-news/53812-suncom-stock-plunges-on-financial-shortfall.html

Just a quick update, the FCC has now approved the merger of the two companies, and T-mobile said they will honor Suncom customer's unplans. There is still no word whether we will still be employed or not.

This may be a silly question given how large T-Mobil is, but have they secured enough funds yet to make the purchase as well?

We didn't know until about 6 months after the announcement of the acquisition about employment....you've got to be getting close?

*keeps fingers crossed for jax*

Well, I would hope so, they are the 6th largest carrier in the world with over 100 million accounts world wide! Seeing how they are purchasing a company who has around 1 million accounts, I would hope they would easily have the funds.

I was able to order my employee phone, and plan yesterday! I ended up getting the Wing 2000 anytime minutes, nationwide roaming with my faves, 400 text messages, and unlimited mobile internet. My service plan will run about $25 a month. Right now I'm paying $50 for 600 minutes with unlimted nights and weekends on Ntelos' network coverage which isn't much, but I don't travel much so it's been working out just fine for me.

Up until now, I've never been excited about owning a mobile phone. I can add up to 2 additional lines at my employee discount, have 1 data line, and some other features later when the brand changes from Suncom to T-mobile later this year.

It does, too bad I didn't have all my information correct. Looks like the plan already includes 1500 outgoing text messages,1000 incoming text messages, unlimited WAP (t-zones) access, 200 picture messages, Unlimited First Free Incoming Minute. So I need to remove that $5.00 400 message plan. I'm still unclear about the internet so I may have to pay for it.

Anyways, good to see back JR90!
