So, I will go ahead and put up a poll for everyone to decide which forum icons system we should go with. You can still suggest any new ideas. I guess whatever gets the most votes will be implemented. Also you will see a concept of the new forum layout. The final version should have the latest post and poster, along with the forum stats. I'm attempting to change the look of the forum from the traditional forum look, which could take some time to get used to but I think once it's all said and done, the layout should look pretty cool.

I somewhat agree about not being able to tell, you can see more of a difference when all the topic icons are viewable. I think I'll still go back and change the look so you can tell a little more.

I voted for the faded icon images.

They might need some more tweaking based on the preview, but I still like the concept.

I agree with JR90. I still think they need to be faded a little more though.

Although I didn't vote for this one, my second choice would be the bright orange arrow button. That's the next one that pops out at me the most, plust it matches the contrasting color of orange throughout the forum's color scheme.

We will go with the faded images! As for when you can expect them, I can't really say right now due to the fact that I only have a few hours a week to work on the forum. Once I get my laptop battery, I will have a lot more time to work on everything since I'm not at home as much as I used to be. Working 6 days a week doesn't help speed up the process...

I'm definitely excited to see the new icons! It'll be nice to have a distinguisher again for any new posts.

If you need/want any extra help, don't hesitate to ask. Smile

Thanks for offering to help! I will either try to see if I can get the new layout along with the new icons put on the forum at the same time first. If that posses too much of a delay, I will attempt the icons first.

I believe the images should be complete and uploaded to the forum. New posts should now appear to display the full color, while no new topics or replies should be faded.

You might have to refresh your screen which I had to do. Still it doesn't appear that much different, so I might have to go another route...

The forums that have new posts definitely pop out a bit more and it's nice to have some indication of new posts again. Looks good jax!

Thanks, but I think I'm gonna also take in your idea about the red tint. So, I'm gonna try to combine the faded look with a slight red tint to see if that will help distinguish the two apart.

That might help give a stronger definition. I hope you get the desired affect!

Another idea is that you could try using the red tint on forums with new posts. For right now, a majority of the forums are somewhat idle, so if you highlight the forums with new posts, then those with no activity would be normal looking. Just a thought!

After you check this post, refresh your screen on the index, and tell me if the images have somewhat of a red tint to them.

Now it's just a matter of updating the legend to reflect the changes as well as keeping the sub-forum and topic images. I'm not really rushing to do that even though it should be fairly easy. I just have a lot of other more important changes to make first.

I think I'll be going back to the drawing board regarding the icons, because it's still a little hard to distangish the old from the new posts.

I agree, it's still a bit difficult to know a new post from old. For some reason, I thought the final result would have more distinguishing power than it does currently. Can't know for sure until you try though!
